Officers and counsel of ICC’s Pre-Trial Chamber I
The confirmation of charges hearing in the crimes against humanity case against former President Duterte has started with the prosecution, the victims’ counsel and the defense taking turns on presenting the merits to the case. Members of the three parties have varying roles in the case and some of them will have the chance to speak before the Pre-Trial Chamber (PTC) I of the International Criminal Court throughout the four-day proceedings this week.

Kaufman also introduced the six Filipino lawyers, who all served in various capacities during the Duterte mayoral years and the presidency. Among them was former Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, who initially appeared before the ICC as temporary counsel of Duterte days after his arrest last year. They were sitting in the public gallery of the courtroom in support of the defense team:
