P1-M reward up for info on Cagayan mayor’s killers

TUGUEGARAO CITY—The Cagayan provincial government has earmarked a P1-million reward to anyone who can provide information to identify and arrest the mastermind and the killer in the assassination of Rizal town Mayor Joel Ruma.
Cagayan Gov. Manuel Mamba said the reward was offered to help achieve justice and fairness in the assassination of Ruma, who was shot dead while holding a campaign rally for his reelection in Barangay Illuru Sur on the night of April 23.
The single bullet that ended the mayor’s life was believed to have been fired by a professional sniper.
Ruma was substituted by his 20-year-old daughter, Jamila, who won as mayor in the May 12 elections.
Mamba called the public to inform the governor’s office of any information that could lead to Ruma’s killer and the mastermind.
“Our office is open to anyone who can provide us vital information. Rest assured that you will be under our protection,” the outgoing three-term governor said on Friday.
Mamba won as vice governor while his running mate, former Philippine National Police chief Edgar Aglipay, won as governor.
