P119-M ‘shabu’ found in countertop shipment at clark
Customs authorities said on Saturday it intercepted about P119 million worth of suspected “shabu” (crystal meth) hidden inside resin countertops in a shipment that arrived from the United States.
The seizure was conducted by the Bureau of Customs (BOC)-Port of Clark in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)and the Clark Inter-Agency Task Force Against Illegal Drugs.
Authorities said the shipment originated in Las Vegas, and was bound for Makati City.
The BOC said it was flagged after the PDEA provided intelligence information. The parcel underwent X-ray screening, which revealed suspicious images, prompting a physical inspection.
A PDEA K9 unit later indicated the presence of illegal drugs.
According to the BOC, a full examination of the shipment led to the discovery of two black resin blocks concealed inside the countertops.
Laboratory testing confirmed the substance was methamphetamine hydrochloride, which is classified as a dangerous drug under Republic Act No. 9165.
Warrant of seizure
A warrant of seizure and detention was issued for violations of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act in relation to the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.
In a statement, Customs Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno said the operation highlights the importance of coordination among enforcement agencies.
“The success of this operation underscores the value of deep-rooted coordination among our partner agencies,” Nepomuceno said. “By strengthening collaboration and sharing intelligence, we ensure that our borders remain secure and that illegal drugs are prevented from reaching our communities.”
The statement did not mention any arrests.
