P12,500 hazard pay for court sheriffs sought
A lawmaker is pushing for a measure that will provide all court sheriffs, who are often placed in unsafe and hostile situations, a monthly hazard pay of P12,500.
Batangas Rep. Gerville Luistro filed House Bill No. 11239, citing the crucial role of court sheriffs in administering justice by enforcing court orders such as evictions and asset recovery.
“This duty often places them in dangerous and hostile situations where they face physical threats, harassment and even acts of violence,” she said.
The bill was referred on Monday to the House committee on justice.
Luistro said a monthly P12,500 hazard pay would “help ensure that sheriffs remain motivated to perform their duties effectively despite the risks.”
Under HB 11239, the proposed compensation covers those in regional trial courts, metropolitan trial courts, municipal trial court in cities and Shari’a district courts.
