P36.8-M ‘shabu’ seized at Naia cargo facility
The Philippine National Police has intercepted an estimated P36.8 million worth of crystal methamphetamine or “shabu” at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) cargo facility in Pasay City.
Operatives from the Naia Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group discovered on Wednesday three abandoned parcels containing approximately 5.4 kilograms of suspected shabu during a routine X-ray cargo screening and manual inspection.
PNP chief Police Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. lauded the operatives for their swift and coordinated action, saying authorities will not allow Naia to be used as a gateway for drugs.
“We will continue to strengthen surveillance, coordinate closely and hold accountable anyone trying to smuggle illegal substances into the country,” he said.
The PNP, in close coordination with the Bureau of Customs and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, is currently working to uncover the wider network behind the illegal drug shipment.
