P7-B wind project to rise in Northern Samar
TACLOBAN CITY—Northern Samar continues to attract major clean energy investments, as a new P7.08-billion wind power project is set to rise in the municipality of Victoria, reinforcing the province’s position as an emerging renewable energy hub in Eastern Visayas.
Econergy Renewable Power Philippines Inc. presented updates on the project during a courtesy meeting with Gov. Harris Ongchuan last week, reaffirming its commitment to pursue the wind energy development in partnership with the provincial government.
The planned facility will install 24 large-scale wind turbines in elevated areas of Victoria, with a projected capacity of around 100 megawatts to 105 megawatts.
Green energy
The project is aligned with the government’s Green Energy Auction Program and is expected to add significant capacity to the region’s renewable energy supply.
If all requirements are completed on schedule, construction may begin next year and take about two to three years, with full operations targeted between 2027 and 2029, according to the Provincial Economic Development and Investment Promotion Office.
Aside from power generation, the project includes community-oriented components. Meteorological masts to be installed for wind resource measurement will later be turned over to the local government after two years of operation, where they may be repurposed for disaster risk reduction and climate monitoring—an important function for a province frequently exposed to extreme weather events.
