Padilla drug testing bill ‘unconstitutional’

A Palace official dismissed on Wednesday Sen. Robinhood Padilla’s Senate Bill No. 1200, requiring elected and appointed officials to undergo annual mandatory drug testing.

“I hope he has already read the Supreme Court’s decision regarding this: Social Justice Society versus Dangerous Drugs Board (2008), where it was ruled that it is not allowed and is unconstitutional and a violation of privacy if applied to everyone,” Palace press officer Claire Castro said.

She clarified that what was allowed under the law was random drug testing, not mandatory universal testing.

She added that she was merely pointing out the unconstitutionality of the bill and was not opposed to drug tests.
