The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Thursday released the names to be used for the tropical cyclones expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) in 2026.

Should the cyclones exceed 25 before the year is over, Pagasa reserves the following as auxilary names:

The bureau earlier said two to eight tropical cyclones are expected to enter PAR during the first half of 2026.

It also said that more tropical cyclones enter the Philippine area of responsibility than in any other part of the globe. In the region covering the country, an average of 20 tropical cyclones develop each year, with about eight or nine crossing the archipelago.

The peak of the typhoon season in the Philippines is from July to October, when nearly 70 percent of all typhoons form.
