Pagasa watching 2 low-pressure areas
September 16, 2024
A low-pressure area (LPA) formed inside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) 460 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora, as of 3 p.m. on Sunday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
The new system has little chance of becoming a storm, but the weather bureau is not ruling out the possibility. Pagasa weather specialist Ana Clauren-Jorda said they were also watching another LPA 2,145 km east of eastern Visayas.
The LPA off Luzon is expected to enhance the southwest monsoon, called “habagat” in the vernacular, and bring cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms in the afternoons, Clauren-Jorda said. —GILLIAN VILLANUEVA
