President Marcos Jr. has officially declared June 6 a regular holiday throughout the country in observance of Eid al-Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice, one of the most important holidays in the Islamic calendar.

The President issued Proclamation 911, signed on May 21, upon the recommendation of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) and in accordance with Republic Act No. 9849, which designates the 10th day of Zhul Hijja, the 12th month of the Islamic calendar, as a national holiday for Eid al-Adha.

“Eid al-Adha is one of the two greatest feasts of Islam,” the proclamation said, noting that the NCMF had confirmed that June 6 corresponds with the 10th day of Zhul Hijja in the year 1446 Hijrah.

Changing date

The date varies each year based on the Hijrah Islamic lunar calendar, according to Malacañang.
