Palace to Marcoleta: Blame yourself for your troubles
Malacañang on Sunday denied allegations that the plunder case filed against Sen. Rodante Marcoleta and his election campaign donors were politically motivated, saying that the complaints stemmed from evidence and admissions coming from the senator himself.
In an interview on dzMM, Palace press officer Claire Castro said the Marcos administration had no hand in the investigation and filing of the cases, which were initiated by the Office of the Ombudsman, an independent constitutional body beyond the control of the executive branch.
“The recommendation came from the Ombudsman itself. The Ombudsman is not part of the administration,” Castro said.
Castro said the issues arose from Marcoleta’s own submissions of his statement of contributions and expenditures, and statement of assets, liabilities and net worth, as well as alleged discrepancies between Marcoleta’s declared assets and the scale of his election spending during the 2025 polls.
She also cited Marcoleta’s own public statements acknowledging that some donors preferred not to disclose their identities.
