Palace wants probe on why Romualdez allowed aide

Luisa Cabato

Malacañang on Friday called for a “deeper” investigation into why Martin Romualdez was allowed to have a personal aide assist him in the New Quezon City Jail—where the former Speaker and President Marcos’ cousin is detained for plunder.

Palace press officer Claire Castro said this special treatment, if proven, would constitute “extravagance.”

“[But] I don’t want to speculate because we don’t know where this arrangement originated.

We also don’t know the state of [his] health that would necessitate having someone assist him 24/7.”

Also on Friday, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla directed the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology to submit a comprehensive report within 48 hours on the “legal and administrative basis” for allowing the detained Leyte representative to have a personal assistant.
