PH condoles with Thailand over Queen Mother Sirikit
The Philippine government, through its embassy in Bangkok, joined the Kingdom of Thailand in mourning the passing of Queen Mother Sirikit on Saturday at the age of 93.
“On behalf of the Filipino community in Thailand, the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Thailand extends its deepest condolences to the Royal Family, and the people of the Kingdom of Thailand on the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, The Queen Mother,” it said in a statement.
She suffered a stroke in 2012 and had not been seen in public since then. “Her Majesty’s condition worsened until Friday and she passed away at 9:21 p.m. … at Chulalongkorn Hospital at age 93,” Thailand’s Royal Palace said in a statement.
The Bangkok Post said she developed bloodstream infection on Oct. 17 and “her condition gradually deteriorated.” Her remains will be enshrined at Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall at the Grand Palace in Bangkok.
Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul canceled his trip to the 47th Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
