PH, UAE eye deeper defense ties
The Philippines and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are looking to deepen defense ties through military training and the possible coproduction of defense equipment, the Department of National Defense (DND) said on Friday, following talks a day earlier at the DND headquarters between Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. and UAE nonresident defense attaché Staff Col. Ahmed Saeed Ali Alramli Alketbi.
Alketbi was accompanied by UAE Ambassador to the Philippines Mohamed Obaid Alzaabi and embassy counselor Musabbeh Said Humaid Binsumait Al Ali.
Teodoro and the UAE officials also discussed the evolving security situation in the Middle East and the need for cooperation and dialogue in addressing challenges with global implications.
The Philippines and the UAE signed a memorandum of understanding on defense cooperation during President Marcos’ official visit to the Gulf state in January.
