PhilHealth launches online records check for members

The Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) launched on Thursday the PhilHealth Check Utility (PCU), an online tool that members can use to verify their records and eliminate false claims.

The PCU was launched with the support of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), which according to PhilHealth President and CEO Edwin Mercado, “reflects how PhilHealth and PSA are strengthening our partnership to ensure that every peso of the health fund reaches the Filipino.”

The online tool, Mercado added, is a “key step in strengthening the integrity of our membership data.” Using data from the PSA’s Philippine Identification System, the PCU is able to verify identities in real time, perform biometric checks and ensure that records are accurate and up to date.

No more duplications

“This enables us to prevent duplications, strengthen safeguards and protect the health fund, while ensuring that benefits reach the right people at the right time,” he said.

According to Mercado, the newly launched system that can be accessed at pcu.philhealth.gov.ph/ is already integrated into key PhilHealth programs, such as the Yaman ng Kalusugan Program and Guaranteed and Accessible Medications for Outpatient Treatment, “helping streamline the patient’s journey from consultation to access to medicines.”

“Soon, we will expand it to also include PCU verification wherever there are touch points like the hospitals, dialysis centers, ambulatory

service centers and all accredited facilities of PhilHealth,” he said.

PSA National Statistician and Civil Registrar General Claire Dennis Mapa said that 91-million Filipinos were already registered under PhilSys and provided with “unique” national ID numbers. The two agencies also launched at the same time the PhilSys colocation initiative, which allows PhilHealth members to apply for their national ID at selected PhilHealth offices, in an effort to make the process more convenient.

“We want to help PhilSys reach every Filipino,” Mercado said. “Together with PSA, we are strengthening the foundation of a system that is more accountable, transparent and responsive to the needs of our people.”
