Phivolcs records Kanlaon Volcano ash emission
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported that Kanlaon Volcano emitted ash at 8:16 a.m. on Thursday.
“The event generated a grayish plume that rose 200 meters above the summit crater before drifting east-northeast, as recorded by the Kanlaon Volcano Observatory-Canlaon City,” it said.
In its 24-hour monitoring bulletin, Phivolcs said the volcano recorded five volcanic earthquakes.
On Wednesday, it emitted 1,727 tons of sulfur dioxide, which was slightly greater than the 1,014 tons of sulfur dioxide released the previous day.
The volcano remains under alert level 2 which signifies increased unrest, and entry remains prohibited into the four-kilometer radius or the permanent danger zone.
Aircraft are also warned against flying close to the volcano.
At the same time, Phivolcs reminded nearby communities of possible hazards such as sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions and precursory magmatic activity.
