PNP tells cop-vloggers: Use AI with care
The Philippine National Police on Wednesday reminded its personnel who are also vloggers to “be mindful” of their use of artificial intelligence (AI) in videos.
This came after the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group flagged a supposedly AI-generated video on social media depicting a police officer misbehaving at a fast-food restaurant.
“While we encourage digital transformation, we should be mindful of the use of AI for ‘clout‑chasing’ contents that could damage the image of the PNP as an organization,” PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said in a statement. He cited PNP Memorandum Circular No. 2024-077 which states that uniformed officers are allowed to produce vlogs related to official police activities but with consideration for security concerns.
The memorandum also specifies that only police community relations units are allowed to create content while using police uniforms, equipment and facilities.
