The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said on Tuesday that no one was injured after a power bank caught fire and exploded at a screening checkpoint at Roxas Airport in Capiz.
In a statement, the CAAP said that at 6:36 a.m. Tuesday, a 72,000 milliampere-hour power bank was detected in the bag of a passenger bound for Manila.
The item exceeded the 160-watt-hour allowable capacity for power banks permitted on board an aircraft.
After the passenger agreed to turn over the item to a companion outside the terminal, the power bank suddenly ignited and then exploded.
Fortunately, there were no injuries or significant damage as a result.
