Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur is 87th PH Diocese

Pope Francis has created a new diocese in the northeastern Mindanao region, the 87th in the Philippines, which is home to the world’s third-biggest population of Catholics. The new Roman Catholic Diocese of Prosperidad, according to the Vatican, covers the province of Agusan del Sur.
It was carved out of the 57-year-old Diocese of Butuan, which now covers only Agusan del Norte province. The new diocese, which will be a a suffragan of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro, will be headed by Bishop Ruben Labajo, the auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Cebu.
