A concert held Saturday night in Quezon City and organized by civil society groups kicked off commemorative activities leading to the 40th anniversary of the Edsa People Revolution, the peaceful uprising that toppled the dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos Sr. in 1986.
The anniversary this Feb. 25 has been declared a “special working day” under the administration of the late strongman’s son and namesake. Several schools, however, are honoring the Edsa legacy by suspending classes on that day.
The concert at Quezon Memorial Circle, dubbed “Awit at Aksyon Kontra Korapsyon (Song and action against corruption),” was organized by the Mayors for Good Governance—which included Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte—and the Kaya Natin! Movement for Good Governance and Ethical Leadership.
Among the expected performers were Ice Seguerra, Janno Gibbs, Ogie Alcasid, Elmo Magalona, Arkin Magalona, Ogie Diaz, Mama Loi, Hey Moonshine, Madeline, J Kris Dantes, Stonefree, Chloe Redondo, Crazy As Pinoy, TSN, Morobeats, DJ Jhaiho, Rivermaya, Pio Balbuena, Iza Calzado, Ebe Dancel, Alex Calleja, Over October, Bea Binene, and Chelsea Alley, and more.
