Repatriated OFW lands job at Bulacan fair
CITY OF MALOLOS—One of Bulacan’s eight repatriated overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from the Middle East has already secured employment through a job fair organized by the Bulacan provincial government, just three days after returning home.
Provincial Public Employment Service Office (Peso) head Engr. Egbert Robles said the OFW, from San Jose del Monte City, applied during the job fair at a mall in Malolos, on March 26 and will be placed in a job near her residence.
“She joined the job fair, and the Department of Labor and Employment is assisting her in securing suitable work,” Robles told the Inquirer.
Local, abroad
The fair drew nearly 200 applicants from across Bulacan for various local and overseas positions, including chef, factory worker, barista, housekeeper and sales staff.
Robles said 255 applicants sought local jobs, with 50 nearing hiring pending requirements and two hired on the spot.
At least 14 companies offered employment opportunities locally and abroad, including placements in Oman, Taiwan, Cyprus, Greece, Vanuatu and Qatar.
Meanwhile, about 600 job seekers also found employment opportunities during the Bulacan Mega Job Fair held on March 23 in Guiguinto, with support from San Miguel Corp. (SMC).
Decent employment
Robles said Peso Bulacan, along with the Department of Migrant Workers and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, holds monthly job fairs to expand access to decent employment.
He also invited Bulakenyos to visit their office and official Facebook page Provincial Peso Bulacan, and encouraged them to take advantage of the free training programs available to further enhance their skills and employability.
Gov. Daniel Fernando assured residents, including the repatriated OFWs, of continued job opportunities through these regular job fairs and encouraged Bulakenyos to take advantage of free skills training programs offered by the provincial government.
He also thanked SMC for helping Bulakenyos acquire employment.
