Severe floods submerged parts of Bicol

LEGAZPI CITY—Continuous heavy rains caused by the shear line and Tropical Depression “Wilma,” which on Sunday was downgraded to a low sure area, triggered flooding in several areas and the evacuation of 942 people in the Bicol region on Sunday.

The Office of Civil Defense Bicol said the residents from 11 towns were moved to various shelters in the provinces of Albay, Masbate, Camarines Sur, Sorsogon and Catanduanes.

At least 6,473 passengers and 1,662 rolling cargoes were stranded after sea travel was suspended in all ports in the region.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) issued a red rainfall warning at 2 p.m. on Sunday in Camarines Norte, which was expected to cause severe flooding and landslides.

Pagasa also warned of moderate rains in other provinces.

Precaution

In Catanduanes, the heavy rains destroyed a spillway that connected Barangay Pagsangahan and other villages in San Miguel town.

Some vehicles were stranded while residents were waiting for the floodwaters to subside.
