SoKor community, PAOCC meet on crime concerns

South Korean nationals living in or visiting the country are increasingly becoming the target of violent crimes, a concern taken up during a dialogue on Friday between the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) and the United Korean Community Association in the Philippines.
In a statement on Saturday, the PAOCC said it was planning to increase police visibility in areas known to host large numbers of Koreans, such as Metro Manila, Angeles City and Cebu, among other measures.
During the meeting, Sang Seung-man, deputy chief of mission the South Korean embassy, appealed for “strong reinforcement” on the part of the government to ensure the safety of its citizens amid the “alarming violent crimes” targeting them.
Friday’s meeting was held almost a month after a male South Korean tourist was shot dead in a daytime robbery in Angeles City’s Korean Town on April 20.
