Sotto ready to give salary to poor students

Senate Minority Leader Vicente “Tito” Sotto III said on Sunday he would make good on his campaign promise to use all his pay during his six-year term to support underprivileged students.
In a Viber message to reporters, Sotto showed a photo of himself holding a check for an amount more than P471,000, representing his salaries for July and August.
“As I promised during the campaign, I will give this to those who need financial assistance, particularly in the field of education, to help students who are struggling in life,” Sotto told reporters.
The senator’s office said the check had been deposited in a bank account created for the scholarship program.
“No foundation, just scholarship application through our office,” it said.
Screening ongoing
According to Sotto, his office has already started screening requests for support from students.
So far, there have been 18 applications, one of which was already approved. Five were undergoing screening or interviews while 12 others were completing their requirements, Sotto said.
He added that those seeking scholarship and educational assistance should fill out a form at forms.gle/d1VBvvmUcujD6ALR9.
