Speaker: 19th Congress focused on jobs, food security
Speaker Martin Romualdez on Sunday reiterated the House of Representatives’ commitment to craft legislation aimed at more jobs and food security.
The Leyte congressman cited a Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey which, he said, validated the House’s legislative direction.
The SWS survey, commissioned by the Stratbase ADR Institute and conducted from April 11 to April 14, showed 93 percent of Filipinos would vote for candidates advocating job generation and the development of the country’s agriculture for food security.
“The survey confirms our legislative direction, a direction we have been proactively pursuing in the past months and years,” Romualdez said in Filipino.
He pointed out that the House and the Senate, in the 19th Congress, have passed laws, which have been signed into law to strengthen the country’s job generation.
The Speaker cited Republic Act No. 11962, or the Trabaho para sa Bayan Act, which created a national employment master plan; RA 11966, or the Public-Private Partnership Code of 2023; RA 11967, or the Internet Transactions Act; and RA 11960, or the One Town, One Product Philippines Act.
“All these laws, when combined, create an entire ecosystem of opportunities for decent work,” Romualdez asserted.
He said the House paired long-range reforms with immediate relief, resulting in RA 11953, or the New Agrarian Emancipation Act.
