Suspects say 2 Japanese ordered killed by ‘boss’ in Japan

The suspects in the killing of two Japanese in Malate, Manila, on Aug. 15, told the police they were hired by another Japanese to murder the victims for P9 million.
“They carefully planned this and they said a Japanese national based in Japan ordered them to do it. They call him ‘Boss,’” Manila Police District (MPD) spokesperson Maj. Philipp Ines told the Inquirer in a phone interview on Wednesday. “The contract price was P9 million,” Ines said.
An MPD statement said the two suspects, brothers Albert and Abel Manabat, ages 50 and 62, respectively, were charged in the city prosecutor’s office for murder following their arrest on Monday.
A third suspect is still being sought by the police. Ines said they have yet to identify the alleged Japanese man who hired the suspects and whether the brothers received the P9 million.<br />The Japanese victims, who were not identified, were shot dead on Malvar Street in Malate after alighting from a taxi cab.
According to Ines, the victims arrived in Manila on Friday night, were brought to a Pasay City hotel by a Filipino tourist guide and then taken to Malate for some “entertainment.”
