Transport groups that have refused to comply with the government’s public transport modernization program pushed through with their three-day strike on Wednesday.
The police estimated that around 1,500 joined the protest, but they were prevented from leaving their gathering area at Welcome Rotonda in Quezon City. The groups said the city government of Manila did not issue a permit despite their request to hold their protest in Mendiola and Liwasang Bonifacio.
According to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, there were no reports of stranded commuters, and its five rescue vehicles on standby were not deployed. —DEXTER CABALZA
