Voter registration in Middle East not affected by conflict
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said on Monday that overseas voter registration in Philippine embassies and consulates located in the Middle East would continue despite ongoing tensions in the region.
In a statement, the poll body said that Philippine Foreign Posts in the affected countries remain operational and open for consular services, including overseas voter registration.
Filipinos who want to vote in the 2028 national elections can register until Sept. 30, 2027.
To qualify, they should be at least 18 years old on or before May 8, 2028, and not yet registered as overseas voters. They can go to any Philippine embassy, consulate, Manila economic and cultural office, or Philippine Foreign Post.
The Comelec issued the advisory after the United States and Israel carried out a major attack against Iran on Saturday, with the Islamic Republic responding by launching strikes that targeted US bases across the Middle East.
