Harnessing AI in PH

As the Philippines navigates a challenging economic landscape in 2026—with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development forecasting moderated gross domestic product growth amid inflationary pressures—the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in supply chains offers a critical pathway to resilience and competitiveness.

Recent initiatives, such as the AI-native industrial acceleration hub in New Clark City under the Pax Silica framework, signal a promising shift. By integrating AI into logistics, forecasting, and manufacturing, Philippine businesses can mitigate vulnerabilities from port congestion, weather disruptions, and global trade shocks. Early adopters are already reporting significant gains in efficiency, with potential reductions in logistics costs and lead times.

The country’s strengths in business process outsourcing and its young, tech-savvy workforce position it well to transition from low-value services to higher-value AI applications in agriculture, smart cities, and e-commerce. However, realizing this potential requires addressing key bottlenecks: skills gaps, infrastructure investment, and inclusive access to technology for small and medium enterprises.

Policymakers should prioritize public-private partnerships to expand digital infrastructure, upskill the labor force through targeted training programs, and streamline regulations to attract responsible foreign investment. Fostering a vibrant startup ecosystem in AI and data analytics will not only boost productivity but also create quality jobs, helping to narrow inequality.
