Improve infrastructure in the provinces
I agree with all of Michael Lim Ubac’s points in “Building bridges for ‘One Visayas’,” (Moving Into High Gear, 6/27/24), except maybe one.
My wife and I live in Dumaguete and her family is on Cebu Island so we are frequent ferry travelers. A bridge between the islands would be great. Not only for us but there are a lot of people on the ferry so it is a popular travel route. I can see businesses and tourists benefiting from a bridge.
When I was here as a tourist I did not want to travel to different islands because it seemed a bad way to travel. It is too complicated.
I wonder if the government should consider other projects instead of the bridges because the cost is very high.
The one point in the article I do not agree with is the percentage of poor in central Visayas. When I am in Manila I see a lot more poor begging than what I see in Cebu or other places. I wonder how the government collects that data. It may not be accurate.
I hope the Philippine government can do more projects to improve the infrastructure here.
