Let us not forget, no history revision

Feb. 25, 2025 is the 39th anniversary of the Edsa People Power Revolution.
It was not declared a national holiday, but most schools canceled their classes.
According to Professor Randy David in his column, “the Edsa People Power Revolution remains a source of national pride, a moment of extraordinary hope” (see “A precious moment of national pride,” 2/23/25). This bloodless revolution against the corrupt Marcos dictatorship became a model for some countries that toppled similar cases of corruption and dictatorship.
I am not familiar with our laws and just curious as to who issues proclamations for our holidays. Recently, we just had a holiday for the Lunar or Chinese New Year. Just what percentage of regular Filipinos celebrate this? If the president or the executive branch is responsible for designating national holidays, there is something wrong with the Marcos administration. They would like to revise history and at the same let the young generations forget this part of our history.
Congress should pass a law making Feb. 25 a national holiday.
If nobody is acting on this before the 40th anniversary next year, people power must come back. People power will come back with teach-ins, speeches, and recounting or reminiscing of the events by people, even the ordinary person on the street, who had joined and witnessed Edsa People Power Revolution.
No person or group of people should be allowed to revise our history. Edsa People Power Revolution is our history.
