Let’s move on!

Fr. Jerry M. Orbos SVD

The story is told about a doctor, an engineer, and a lawyer who were debating on who was the first professional. The doctor said God took the rib from Adam, so he was a surgeon. The engineer said God created heaven and earth from chaos and confusion, so he was an engineer. And the lawyer said: “Who do you think created chaos and confusion?”

—————–

In today’s Gospel (Matthew 2:1-12), King Herod created chaos and confusion throughout Judea. He ordered his soldiers to search for the newborn king, eventually killing the holy innocents and bringing so much pain and suffering to his subjects. That was some 2,000 years ago. Today, aren’t politicians still doing quite the same?

—————–

Today is the Solemnity of the Lord’s Epiphany. God has shown us the big picture, a revelation of His plan for the good of all nations. May all of us, especially our politicians, go beyond our narrow agenda and ambitions, and pursue what is good and beneficial for all.

—————–

Amidst the chaos and confusion from the recent flood control scam, the big revelation is that we are a rich country, with a national budget amounting to trillions! But the bigger revelation is that our national thieves have pocketed billions. They, too, have raised their standard of stealing!

—————–

How is your standard of seeking for the Lord? Do you go out of your way to seek His presence? Do you take time to pray, to be quiet before His presence, and really listen to Him? Amidst the noise and the haste of this world, don’t forget GPS—GOD’S PRESENCE IN SILENCE. Please don’t forget this every single day of 2026, and you will experience peace, serenity, and guidance in your journey to God’s heart.

—————–

How does GPS work? How do we find God’s presence in silence? Let us learn from the Magi the three steps of GPS: “They prostrated themselves,” i.e., they humbled themselves before the Newborn King; “They did Him homage,” i.e., they honored and accepted Jesus as their Lord and King; “They offered their gifts,” i.e., they gave the love in their hearts, and the treasures of their hands. GPS works in humble, obedient, and loving hearts.

Somebody once said: we do not know what the future holds, but we know who holds the future in His hands. True. Let this be our guiding star. There is Someone who is bigger and greater than all of us. There is Someone in control, and this Someone loves us all. Let this be our firm and unfailing belief as we start the New Year.

—————–

Happy New Year! Happy new you!

Wishing you all a happy and light journey in 2026. Like the Magi, may we journey, guided by the Lord’s star. May we be patient and persevering. May we learn to dispose of our unnecessary luggage, and not be too distracted by the lights and sounds of this world so that we do not lose our way. And may we remember that our journey is not about going far or fast, but a journey to God’s heart. At the end of the year, may we confidently and humbly say, yes, I have become a better person, and I have come closer to God.

—————–

We all wish for a peaceful and trouble-free journey in 2026, but that is wishful thinking. There will be trials, disappointments, irritants, talkers, and stalkers along the way. Let’s face them all bravely with the assurance from the Lord who tells us: “I am with you.” And that is all we need to know and hold on to. Yes, let’s face 2026 with the Lord as our guide and shield.

—————–

Think about this: “Make peace with your past so it won’t disturb your future; what other people think of you is none of your business; the only person in charge of your happiness is you; don’t compare your life to others because comparison is the thief of joy.”

—————–

As we say goodbye to 2025 and welcome 2026, the question we should ask is: Have I come closer to God, and have I come nearer to God’s heart? That is the bottom line. More than our financial, health, social, family, and political issues and concerns, the question to ask ourselves is not, “Am I closer to death now than last year?” (Naturally!), but “Am I closer to God now than last year?”

—————–

As we face the year ahead of us, let us take courage and be consoled by God’s promise: “For I know the plans I have for you; plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11). Let us also be assured of His power over anything or anyone: “Be still and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10)

A moment with the Lord:

Lord, be with us, stay with us, as we move on. Amen
