Talk of the Town: Alarming text scam problem
Comments on “Alarming text scam problem,” (Editorial, 10/21/24) via https://opinion.inquirer.net:
Blaming telcos for the rise in scams in the Philippines misses the real issue—it’s not about SIM registration, as Senator Poe claimed, but about people’s lack of common sense. Scams didn’t disappear; they surged. It’s absurd that lawmakers still think holding telcos accountable will stop this. Filipinos lost P460 billion in a year, but that’s because many fall for “too-good-to-be-true” deals. Even with laws like SIM registration, scams will persist as long as people are reckless. Senator Poe should be kicked out for her misguided belief that a simple registration can fix what’s really a human problem.

If there is no refund system like Facebook, scam is more likely.
