Talk of the Town: Conservative Christian support for Trump
Comments on “Conservative Christian support for Trump,” (Flea Market of Ideas by Joel Ruiz Butuyan, 4/16/26) via https://opinion.inquirer.net:
The negative reaction of conservative Christians to Trump’s recent attacks on Pope Leo may signify cracks in Trump’s base. Hopefully these cracks will widen as Trump, who is often unfettered by any social restraint in his words and action, crosses the red line for these Christians more and more.

Trump’s follower base which includes a lot of conservative Christians is essentially a cult. To these cultists, their hero Trump can do no wrong. Any criticism of Trump is interpreted as a personal attack on them, eliciting reactions of defensiveness, anger or withdrawal. Any information that challenges their deeply held assumptions about their hero creates a lot of mental discomfort for them.

The killings of defenseless unborn babies is worse than extrajudicial killings. Of all mankind’s sin, this is the worst. Therefore, between Joe & Donald, true followers of Jesus have more to thank sinner Donald Trump. It’s not loving Trump and hating Joe. It’s the right thing to do.
