Talk of the town: Elections and quality of life
Comments on “Elections and quality of life” (Editorial, 10/30/24) via https://opinion.inquirer.net:
Surveys are good if they translate the situation on the ground. Surveys should be given honest to goodness interpretation by experts and by Juan dela Cruz. (I-translate kasi ang mga numero at interpretasyon sa Pilipino para lahat makaintindi). Worst if surveys are commissioned by self-serving interest groups and politicos, they just become propaganda tools, tapos eto naman si gullible uto-uto sunggab lang lalo na kung may kalakip na sardinas at isang kilong bigas.

Our elected leaders cannot guarantee the success of more realistic long-term programs beyond their three-year and six-year term limits. Consider that the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals has a 15-year timeline and that is considered ambitious. Note that these quarterly surveys do not reflect the long-term effectiveness of such programs. Rather these shows how events like wars and pandemic are moving the goals farther away from reach.
