The author points to youth activism demanding accountability. But accountability requires specific mechanisms: transparent investment permitting, automatic approval timelines, independent anticorruption enforcement with teeth. Without those, demands alone rarely change behavior.

Economic revival must be leader led. Not a mediocre leader and never by a criminal leader. We need a motivated, honest, and competent leader in the mold of the late Fidel Ramos or a Leni Robredo. We need not one but a continuous leadership change of consistent high quality, like Singapore. Short of that, our country will remain the laggard of Asia.
