Talk of the Town: Lessons from a global outage

Comments on “Lessons from a global outage,” (Undercurrent by Eleanor Pinugu, 7/22/24) via https://opinion.inquirer.net:

Bugs on operating system upgrades of a much smaller scale on cell phones usually or occasionally happen without much ado. Even then, shouldn’t there be a way to avoid this by testing in the so-called lab? If there is a way to pretest these upgrades, shouldn’t it be mandatory for an operating system with worldwide impact? It seems to be so senseless not to have such a pretesting system.

Apparently, similar happened to Linux servers last April but it was not reported.

It just exposed the danger of software monoculture in the industry. This becomes like a single point of failure.
