However you look at it, it’s an act of effin’ daring and courage to sail into the unknown and so vast a distance like that.

Indigenous natives (first landing: Homonhon) would have seen Magellan’s crew in 1521 … not that of robust conquerors, but a “pitiful,” severely debilitated, starving crew suffering from months of untreated scurvy … that human stench and probably devouring fresh fruits, clean water, and meat like liberated prisoners after months at sea.
