Comments on “Make lifestyle checks mandatory,” (Editorial, 11/04/2025) via https://opinion.inquirer.net:

Let’s not forget local officials, yes many of them are already rich before coming to power, who else has the capacity to run for office in the money-driven election in this country? But look at how their underlings have gone from rags to riches, do you mean they are putting their necks at risk for the sake of their underlings?

You can lifestyle check all you want until you drop dead. What’s the point in plundering the country’s treasury if one can’t flaunt the stolen wealth?

Manolo De Los Reyes

Lifestyle checks cannot shame the callous. How long did it take and at what cost to convict army comptroller Ligot? Or when will the courts in the Napoles cases against congressmen and senators ever see any incarcerations of big fishes in their lifetime, or in our life expectancy? Will we add to these cases the trillion pesos a hundred more court cases? Within five decades is too soon!

We’ve been talking lifestyle checks of public servants since time immemorial. Only selected people were subjected to such scheme. The BIR, BI, BOC, the military personnel, and other government officials who are involved with anomalies still go Scott free.
