Popes during the Middle Ages frequently encouraged wars—most notably the Crusades—by promising SPIRITUAL and temporal rewards … John Lennon may have been right in asking listeners to “IMAGINE—no heaven … no hell … no religion too” embracing a secular humanist worldview.
