Talk of the Town: Pilfering PhilHealth funds

Comments on “Pilfering PhilHealth funds,” (Editorial, 8/08/24) via https://opinion.inquirer.net:

In my nearly 50 years of working as an OFW, I contributed thousands of Philippine currency to PhilHealth but upon my retirement, I cannot get a cent related to benefits, not even a cent for my maintenance medicine after I had undergone a minor heart operation.

Those who support such an irrational move have argued that the almost P90 billion did not come from the contributions of paying members—the working Filipinos who pay from P500 to P5,000 depending on their income—but from government subsidy for indigents, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program beneficiaries.

With P90 billion in reserve in the kitty why was it felt necessary to increase the contributions of members from 4 percent to 5 percent? Something smells fishy there!

Philhealth has been nothing more than a fraud agency disguised as a health care insurer. A scam center that collects money and forcibly on OFWs. The best part, members only get 30-40 percent assistance while the rest is borne from a member’s own wallet. Now we have a detached, insensitive, and visibly proud [Ledesma] who only thinks of withholding the money to tell his boss, “Super laki ng tipid ko boss, para sa iyo ito … I deserve a pat on the head.” Then we have a detached Ralph Recto who has no idea what is happening to its members since he lives in his own luxury lifestyle funded by Filipinos. Leaders who are out of touch and live in their own luxury-furnished bubble. Disgusting.
