That’s been going on for many decades, includes their rivals, and is part of patronage democracy, crony capitalism, political machinery, etc.

Any family can fray in the presence of one member whose “deviant” tendencies are so extreme. The fact that this is happening to a politically dominant family as the Marcoses is incidental and not causal as Mr. David seems to suggest.
