Talk of the Town: Putting ‘idle water’ to better use
Comment on “Putting ‘idle water’ to better use,” (Editorial, 11/30/23) via www.inquirer.net:
There is excess water during rainy season and there is shortage during summer. How will you bring the excess water during the rainy season into the summer season? Simply put water impounding pond within your farm.
Our irrigation system cannot supply enough water during summer because its sources are also drying up during summer. But if individual farms will have water-impounding areas within their farm, they will have water for their plants during the dry summer. The pond can be used as fishpond so it will not be a useless piece of property while waiting for the dry season.
Farms that are irrigated and have water-impounding facilities can produce rice and fish all year round.
So why are we having expensive food and food shortages when it can really be solved if we truly want it solved?
