The ultimate hope is that through sustained civic engagement and institutional checks, state violence can be investigated, perpetrators held responsible, and policies reformed to protect fundamental rights.

The US system, warts and all, of civil liberties and press freedom still remains superior to that model of state-sponsored propaganda and news suppression centers.
