Comments on “Urgency of PH-EU free-trade deal,” (Editorial, 2/24/25) via https://opinion.inquirer.net:
How the marcos administration deal with china, a large market with a lot of potentials for our country trade is a big if. Which our fellow ASEAN neighbors used to their advantage, a good economic relationship with that 2nd biggest economy in the world for many years now. With geopolitical changes ongoing around us.(Russia and the US now friends) Even the US our long time close ally looks unreliable from politics to trade. We need to adapt to survive.

It is in our economic self-interest to do a free trade agreement not only with Europe but with all our trading partners, China and the US included.

Fast-tracking an FTA with the EU in response to Trump’s tariffs may not be a smart move for the Philippines … Instead of rushing an FTA, the Philippines should focus on diversifying trade within Asia and securing deals that offer real, long-term benefits.
