We need to aspire to excellence in difficult fields, not mediocrity. To be realistic, however, he will continue to be disappointed without a radical transformation of our educational system and cultural values that favor lawyers, politicians, beauty queens and actors over scientists, engineers, mathematicians, and serious and creative artists.
