Comments on “‘Worth dying for’: why the filipino youth should not understate ninoy’s heroism,” (Letter to the Editor, 8/21/24) via https://opinion.inquirer.net:
Filipino youths nowadays NO longer think that Filipinos or the country Philippines is worth dying for, because the first thing that comes up in their mind is, “what my country have done for me and my family?” Most of the Filipino working families are still considered poor, so the first thing they would do is to find a job overseas upon graduating from high school, 12th grade, for females, they would enroll in midwifery of nursing schools so they can find jobs abroad easily, or find a foreigner husband, to take them out of the country. Lastly, believe it or NOT, Philippine government officials, senators, and congressmen/women alike [are] corrupt.

I am fortunate to live that time when Ninoy showed what heroism really was. He bravely faced his ominous death, prescient in his own words when he said to reporters on the plane, “Watch carefully. This could be quick” referring to his own murder in the hands of Marcos’ men. What a man.
