As the calendar turns, many of us become increasingly preoccupied to refresh our living spaces. It’s the perfect time to scout for new items that make everyday life at home more convenient, efficient and eco-friendly—a true fresh start for a new year.
From smart gadgets to sustainable solutions, here are some household appliances we bet would make ideal “housemates” in the coming year. With technology and artificial intelligence advancing rapidly, it won’t come as a surprise if we’ll soon see more smart appliances promising an ultimately beneficial homelife.
Smart fridge
Companies such as Samsung and LG already have their line of smart refrigerators. Some are so high tech they can track food inventory, come up with recipes, and allow you to see its contents through an app on your smartphone. These ultra sophisticated refrigerators, however, cost an arm and a leg. We won’t be surprised if companies will come up this year with more affordable AI-powered refrigerators, or at least introduce a smart feature or two in reasonably priced models.
Quiet blender
It’s one to be stirred from sleep by the wonderful smell of freshly made fruit juice but it’s another to be rudely roused from slumber by the roaring sound of the blender. Prepare your healthy smoothies minus the unhealthy noise levels with quiet blenders, which have been the rage this past year. We can only assume that every health buff would have one in his or her possession soon.
Non-toxic cookware
A safe kitchen is definitely the way to go this year and that includes using stainless steel, cast iron, carbon steel or ceramic cookware. These should be free from “forever chemicals” such as per- and polyfluoroalkyl (PFAs) found in nonstick pans. If you’re shopping for organically grown ingredients and going out of your way planning healthy and nourishing meals, you should be using non-toxic cookware as well.
AI pet camera
It’s the answer to every pet parent who has to leave their darling pets alone at home. Smart pet monitoring cameras go beyond the traditional security cameras as these detect your pet’s movements. Some pet-specific cameras even dispense or throw treats and send alerts to your smartphone so you’d know if your sneaky fur babies are up to mischief.
Induction cooktop
Induction cooktops are not only convenient to use, these are eco-friendly as well so it’s a win-win for you and the environment. These are capable of setting the appropriate temperature and time, allowing you to cook faster and efficiently. Induction cooktops with touchless controls make the kitchen safer and more efficient.
Smart air purifier
Smart air purifiers monitor real-time indoor air quality and adjust their settings accordingly to remove dust, smoke, allergens and bacteria. Many models come with advanced filters, UV-C light technology and smartphone connectivity for remote control and monitoring. Ten years ago, we wouldn’t have thought of having an air purifier as a staple in our homes. After living through a global health emergency and air pollution that only seems to get worse by the day, an air purifier at home is now considered an essential.
