Clark is calling, and it’s worth staying for

Din Villafuerte

Just a two- to three-hour drive from Manila, Clark in Pampanga makes for an easy and quick weekend escape.

The sprawling former US military base, once known as a hotspot for “PX goods”–imported and duty-free products from the United States–now offers cultural attractions, outdoor adventures and stunning natural landscapes.

Clark Museum

Here’s a spot that history buffs would not want to miss.

Located within the Clark Freeport Zone, Clark Museum houses important artifacts, military memorabilia and local products that tell the history of Clark from 1901 until it became an economic and freeport zone.

The museum features a 4D theater where visitors can watch the 20-minute documentary “Risen from the Ashes,” which traces Clark’s rich history. Museumgoers are also given a glimpse of the 1991 eruption of Mount Pinatubo, with in-theater effects such as gusts of wind and mist making the experience more immersive and memorable.

Mount Pinatubo

Here’s a weekend activity that outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers will absolutely enjoy.

The Pinatubo trek takes visitors up to the picturesque Mount Pinatubo. Getting to the crater may be challenging, hot and dusty, but it is well worth the effort. A breathtaking sight awaits at the crater lake, where turquoise waters sit peacefully amid lush greenery.

Puning Hot Spring

Puning Hot Spring is a geothermal spring area found in the foothills of Barangay Inararo in Porac, Pampanga.

Getting there is already an adventure in itself, as it involves riding through lahar canyons. The destination, however, rewards visitors with a unique volcanic spa experience. Puning Hot Spring is said to help improve skin conditions, soothe tired muscles, boost blood circulation and reduce stress.

Aqua Planet

One of Asia’s largest water theme parks, Aqua Planet takes pride in its world-class facilities.

The 10-ha property has over 38 slides and attractions, including extreme rides like the Tornado, Super Bowl and Boogie Bay for adrenaline junkies. Those who want to practice their surfing skills may do so at the Flow Rider, while the Wave River, which snakes around the park, is perfect for those who simply want to lounge in the water.
