Comfort, connection, and culture in this iconic Cebu address

LAPU-LAPU CITY, CEBU—Property giant Megaworld Corp. treated members of the media to a tour of La Victoria Global Residences at The Mactan Newtown last month, ahead of the condominium’s schedule to welcome its first residents.

“We want to show you what we’ve done with this new condo development that celebrates a historic event,” said Harold Geronimo, vice president and head of Public Relations and Media Affairs at Megaworld.

The 20-story residential tower—located just minutes from the famed Mactan Shrine—pays homage to Mactan Island’s storied past, drawing inspiration from the iconic battle where Filipino hero Lapu-Lapu triumphed over Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan in 1521. While this encounter was a watershed moment in our history as a nation, the Magellan expedition itself revealed much about the nature of planet Earth.

La Victoria, in particular, is named after the only carrack in Magellan’s five-ship fleet to complete the circumnavigation of the globe. That expedition had set out for the Moluccas in 1519 and returned to Spain in 1522.

Vibrant township

La Victoria is one of Megaworld’s seven residential condominium developments within this vibrant 30-ha township, but it stands proudly alongside the others, thanks to Spanish influences in its architecture.

Its lobby echoes the aesthetic direction, providing a sense of history through moldings and patterns, paintings and a miniature model of the eponymous ship, among others.

More than just being an iconic address, La Victoria serves as a tribute to the history and rich heritage that have shaped Filipino no identity.

The windows and balconies of all 181 units, ranging from 38 sqm to 118 sqm, showcase the Magellan Bay, Hilutungan Channel, Cebu Strait and nearby mountains. The property is also located across Savoy Hotel Mactan Newtown and Belmont Hotel Mactan, soon to be rebranded as Mercure Mactan Cebu.

La Victoria’s amenities can compete with its neighbors: an infinity pool, pool lounge, reading lounge, play area, function room, fitness center, fitness trail and daycare center, among others.

“We are delighted to welcome the residents… soon and see them enjoy the vibrancy of [Mactan Newtown], from the beach to all the retail, dining and leisure options in store for them,” said Jennifer Palmares-Fong, head of Sales and Marketing in the Visayas for Megaworld.

Extended amenities

Residents can treat the nearby Mactan Newtown Beach as an extended amenity. They will enjoy exciting retail and dining experiences. Gordon Ramsay Fish & Chips and Street Burger by Gordon Ramsay, located just across the street, will also open soon.

Under construction are Mactan Expo, Cebu’s first and only standalone convention center, and Mactan World Museum, which highlights the connection between the Philippines and Spain. The Mactan-Cebu International Airport is meanwhile 15 minutes away.

Since launching in 2018, La Victoria’s property values have surged by more than 70 percent to P300,000 per sqm from P175,000. Its commercial success stems from La Victoria’s strong market appeal and its strategic location, combined with the enduring investment potential of developments in Mactan Newtown.

“More than just being an iconic address, [La Victoria] serves as a tribute to the history and the rich heritage that shaped our identity as Filipinos, and we are proud to have a development of this caliber here in our township,” Fong added.
